What was the first year of existence of the Toronto Raptors in 1985?
It was difficult for the Toronto Raptors to make it in the NBA's first season. Brendan Malone was appointed head coach by Isiah Tom, and they soon acquired many talented players via trades and in the draft. They won the Chicago Bulls' game once that season, but their overall record was 21-61.

The City Council stated that they would be open to the plan if the NBA agreed not to leave Rogers Arena until the new facility opens. But the league refused to agree, saying the arena wasn't big enough for them anymore. They were not interested in playing there anymore, as it was too small. They felt it unfair to ask them for more revenue by asking them to stay in the smaller venue.
The City Council then asked the province to step in and help out by offering financial assistance. The province agreed to provide $150 million towards the project, but the City Council still needed another $100 million. That was when the City decided that it would instead concentrate on building an arena downtown.
