Raptors versus Magic Sunday December 11th 2022

The Toronto Raptors Lose to the Orland Magic 99-111.

The Toronto Raptors lost to the Orlando Magic 99-111 last night.

The Toronto Raptors are in trouble. Actually, they're in a lot of trouble. They've lost back-to-back games to the worst team in the NBA, and their record on the road is now 3-11. This isn't good news for a team that was supposed to be a tough out in the East this season. In fact, they're currently in last place in the Atlantic division, and their playoff odds have decreased significantly.

It was a very disappointing performance for the Raptors, as they struggled on both ends of the floor. Offensively, they shot just 40 percent from the field and 25 percent from three-point range. Defensively, they allowed the Magic to shoot 46.8 percent from the field and 45.2 percent from beyond the arc.

What happened in the first quarter of the game

For one, OG Anunoby was not in the starting lineup for the Raptors, marking his first absence of the season. Additionally, Toronto's slow start was evident again from the get-go, as they started the game 2-7 from the field. The Magic capitalized on their excellent ball movement and cutting ability.

On the positive side, Scottie Barnes started the game promising, scored 7 points, and looked like he was going to have a good game. Both teams played tough defense in the first quarter. The Raptors created five turnovers, held the Magic to 33% shooting, and prevented them from scoring any three-pointers in the quarter.

How the game continued in the second quarter of the game

The game was close until the 27-27 mark when Pascal got into foul trouble. The Magic went on an 8-0 run while Pascal was sitting with three fouls. The Raptors struggled big time to generate offense without Siakam on the court.

Length was definitely a factor in this game – the Magic had plenty of it. When pitted against the tall, athletic Magic players, the Raptors looked small in comparison.

Gary Trent Jr.'s 3-point shot with seconds left in the first half allowed the Raptors to remain hopeful, as they otherwise would have gone into halftime down by double digits.

What happened in the Third quarter

Raptors' were hanging around in the 3rd, being down 4 points, 69-73, with 2:11 to go, after a Raptors' 7-0 run. Fred VanVleet and Gary Trent Jr. kept the Raptors in the game. It's worth mentioning that Scottie Barnes hasn't scored a single point since the first quarter at this point.

C. Anthony and T. Ross hit back-to-back buckets for Orlando to end the quarter with a 7-point lead. However, the Raptors are well within range. Can they come back from a 7-point deficit against the worst team in the NBA? of course they can!!!

How the game finished in the fourth quarter

Well, the Raptors opened up the fourth with a turnover, to begin with. For a few minutes, it looked like Toronto couldn't make a basket even if their lives depended on it. Any time they tried to make a comeback, the Magic would answer right back with their own basket. For one, Wagner hit a big three to force the Raptors into calling a timeout, the score being 79-92.

Franz Wagner, once again, came through with 23 points and a +13 rating in the game. Cole Anthony had another excellent game tonight, scoring 14 points on 5 of 9 shooting, grabbing 6 rebounds and dishing 6 assists. He was tough to stop all night with his dribble penetration. Banchero had some struggles early in the night, got going late and finished with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists in the game.

The Raptors had no answer for the young Orlando. Raptors got pushed around by a much younger and more athletic Magic team. Raptors lacked the size and strength to match the Magic's athleticism. There are many questions and no answers for this the Toronto Raptors.
