Frequently Asked Questions
How did the Raptors win this year's NBA championship?
DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poltl and a protected 2019 draft pick were traded by the Toronto Raptors to the San Antonio Spurs on July 18, 2018.
The Raptors traded Jonas Valanciunas and Delon Wright C.J. on February 7, 2019. Miles and a 2024 second-round pick from the draft to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Marc Gasol, another multiple All-Star and former Defensive Players of the Year. Jeremy Lin was signed shortly thereafter.
The Toronto Raptors had a very eventful offseason, making two big trades that sent shockwaves through the NBA. DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poltl and a 2019 first round draft pick (that was not protected) were first traded by the Raptors to the San Antonio Spurs. They received Kawhi Leonard from the Spurs in exchange. They traded Jonas Valanciunas and Delon Wright C. J. Miles, and a 2024 second-round draft pick to the Memphis Grizzlies for Marc Gasol--another multiple All-Star and former Defensive Player of the Year. These trades put the Raptors in an excellent position to contend for an NBA championship this season. Let's look at each trade.
The trade for Kawhi Leonard was a risk-reward move for the Raptors. Leonard is a top-5 pick in the league, when healthy, and just finished an MVP-caliber campaign. However, Leonard only played nine games last season because of injury and it is unclear if he will continue to play. The Raptors decided that the reward outweighed the risk and made the deal. Leonard has been performing at an All-Star level so far. He has been in good health. He's averaging 26 points per game, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and shoots 49% from the floor and 38% from three point range. If he is healthy, the Raptors have a chance to win the NBA title this season.
Marc Gasol traded for Marc Gasol in a more short-term move. Gasol, who is in his mid-30s, is clearly past his prime. Gasol is still an excellent player, and he brings valuable experience to the young Raptors. He is averaging 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists per game while shooting 45% from the field and 34% from three-point range. C.J., Delon Wright and other young talents were given up by the Raptors. Miles was used to acquire Gasol but the Raptors believe his experience will prove valuable in the playoffs.
The Raptors began the season strong with a 6-0 win. They broke the franchise record for winning 16 consecutive games, which was set by a record 16-4 record. On November 23, the Raptors won their 24th game against Cleveland Cavaliers. They also reached 20 wins faster than any other time in their history. To prevent Leonard's injury from getting worse, the Raptors rested him for 20 more games. They still managed to secure the 2nd seed East, just behind Milwaukee Bucks.
The Raptors made a strong run in the playoffs and defeated the Philadelphia 76ers in Milwaukee Bucks' finals. The Raptors won their first title in game 6 of the finals against the Golden State Warriors, with Leonard named Finals MVP.
The Toronto Raptors had an extremely successful offseason. It paid off big. Two All-Stars are on the roster and the Raptors look poised to be contenders in the years ahead. They have proven they can take risks and make bold moves when it comes down to building a championship-caliber team. It will be exciting to see if this team can continue their success.
Which five Raptors have been the most prolific per-game scorers over the past 50 years?
Kawhi Leonard has the highest scoring player on the team with 26.6 points per contest. Vince Carter is next with 23.4 points per minute, Mike James with 20.3, Chris Bosh at 20.2, Chris Bosh and DeMar DeRozan are following with 20.3 points each game.
How long have the Raptors been a team?
Toronto Raptors, an NBA team located in Toronto (Ontario), is home to the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors were an expansion team to the NBA in 1995 along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. In 2001-02, the Raptors became the only Canadian-based NBA team after the Grizzlies moved to Memphis, Tennessee.
Toronto Raptors players Scotiabank Arena for their home games. The Maple Leafs, the city’s NHL team, also use the arena. Since their inception in 1921, the Raptors have played in the NBA playoffs thirteen times. Their most recent appearance was in 2021 when they were defeated in six games by the Philadelphia 76ers.
1999-2000 saw the Raptors make their first playoff appearance. They were defeated by the New York Knicks, division rivals, in the first round.
The team was boring and there were very few fans. There was not much to be excited about and nothing to cheer for. After years and years of failure, the team decided it was time to change. They went to great lengths to appeal to the masses.
The team hired an advertising agency to help them create a national marketing strategy in 2001. The team came up with a slogan called "Hear us Roar!"
The slogan was created to advertise the fact that all the games had been sold out. All they needed was a catchy phrase and a great logo to go along with it. This is where creative genius shines through. They combined the phrase "hear us roar" with another popular saying, "never say die." This became the Toronto Raptors' official motto.
Why did NBA leave Vancouver?
NBA left Vancouver because of a dispute with the City Council regarding arena financing. The City of Vancouver was to contribute $40million towards the construction a new basketball venue. This would include 12 luxury suites as well as two restaurants, a bar and a hotel. The City Council wanted to provide $60 million in taxpayer funds to team owners to repay their existing debt. This meant that the city had to borrow $200m to construct the arena. But the team owners would only have to pay back $20m. This would result in the city being responsible for paying the rest of its loan.
If the NBA would agree to keep Rogers Arena open until the opening of the new facility, the City Council was willing to approve the plan. But the league refused, saying that the arena wasn’t large enough. It was too small for them to continue playing there. They felt asking them to continue playing in a smaller venue was unfair when they weren't getting any extra revenue.
The City Council asked for financial assistance and offered to help the province. While the province provided $150 million for the project, the City Council required another $100 million. At that point, the City decided to stop its plans and concentrate on building a new downtown arena.
What was the Raptors first game?
The Raptors vs. New Jersey Nets was their first regular-season match at the SkyDome. Alvin Robertson scored his first points in franchise history. 33,306 people were there. The Raptors defeated Nets in 94-79. Contributions from Damon Stoudamire (10 and 10 assists), as well as Robertson (30 pts) were key.
What was the best year for the Raptors?
The 2019 championship season was the Toronto Raptors' greatest year. It was a thrilling and memorable season for the Raptors, marking the first time they won an NBA Championship in franchise history. Kawhi Leonard was crowned Finals MVP. The team's regular season record was 58-24. The Golden State Warriors were defeated in six games by the team to win the title.
The Toronto Raptors reorganized their front office in 2013, replacing Bryan Colangelo with Masaiujiri. This change would bring a new era to the franchise and make them one of NBA's best teams.
The Raptors under Ujiri enjoyed a resurgence and reached the playoffs in 2014. This was their first playoff appearance since 2008. They've won five division titles and had their best season yet in 2018. Ujiri made a risky trade for Kawhi Leonard that resulted in DeMar DeRozan being traded to the San Antonio Spurs.
The Raptors had a great year in 2019, winning their first conference title and making it to the NBA Finals for the first time. They defeated the Golden State Warriors in six games.
Ujiri's tenure as a Raptors player has been a huge success and should be recognized for changing the Raptors' fortunes. He has led the Raptors to become one of NBA's best teams and looks poised for continued success.
The 2019 championship season will be remembered as one the greatest years in Raptors history.
As we advance, Ujiri and the rest of the Toronto Raptors organization should remain focused on creating a winning culture that supports their players and staff. This team has a bright future if it continues to be dedicated to excellence. The 2019 championship season has set the bar for Toronto Raptors, and it's up to Ujiri and his team to continue building on this success.

How To
Can I take my photography equipment to a Raptors Game?
You'll be fine as long as you follow the rules. It is acceptable to bring a camera to an NBA match. There's nothing illegal about it. However, you need to be aware about the potential dangers.
First, consider whether you need to take pictures during the game. If you sit near the courtside, you can capture great shots without needing a large DSLR or smartphone.
But if you've got a serious interest in sports photography and want to make sure you score a few more photos for your portfolio, then you need to check out these tips for better basketball snapshots.
You should also consider the type of camera that you are going to use. Professional-grade cameras are essential for capturing action shots and memorable moments with your friends.
Also, you need to consider how much time it will take to set up your shot. Consider investing in a tripod, remote release, and other equipment if you are shooting hoops with children.
You must also decide where you will store your gear. You can't expect anyone to hand you a SD card or set up shop in an arena. Either bring extra batteries, cables and SD cards, or you can find somewhere to store it while you're watching the game.
You must plan in advance if you want to capture high-quality photographs of sporting events. You will be able to capture great images that you can enjoy for years to come.
