How long has the Raptors been in existence?

Toronto Raptors are an NBA NBA franchise. The Raptors were an expansion team to the NBA in 1995 along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. In 2001-02, the Raptors became the only Canadian-based NBA team after the Grizzlies moved to Memphis, Tennessee.

Toronto Raptors' home games are played at Scotiabank Arena. The Maple Leafs, the city’s NHL team, also use the arena. Since their foundation, the Raptors were in the NBA playoffs 13 more times. The most recent was in 2021 where they lost 6 to the Philadelphia 76ers.

In 1999-2000, the Raptors qualified for their first playoff appearance. Unfortunately, they were swept by division rivals New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs.

The fans were few and far between, and the team wasn't too exciting either. There wasn't much to cheer for, or even watch, and nobody knew why. After years and years of failure, the team decided it was time to change. They went to great lengths to appeal to the masses.

The team hired an advertising agency to help them create a national marketing strategy in 2001. The team came up with a slogan called "Hear us Roar!"

At the time, the team was struggling financially, so they used the slogan to promote the fact that the games were sold out. All they had to do was create a catchy phrase with a great logo. This is where creativity shines through. They combined the popular phrase "hear our roar" with "never say die". This became the official motto of the Toronto Raptors.

What was the Toronto Raptors first season?

The Toronto Raptors suffered a poor debut season. They won only 21 games. The 1995-1996 Toronto Raptors was the inaugural NBA season. The Raptors joined the league as one of two expansions teams, along with Vancouver Grizzlies. This was also the first NBA-level season.

Isiah Thomas, an All-Star pointguard and former Detroit Pistons legend became the team’s General Manager. He helped draft Damon Stoudamire to be named Rookie and Year. They also acquired Tracy Murray and Oliver Miller in separate trades. Thomas introduced a new primary symbol of a dinosaur playing in basketball and new pinstripe unis with the logo at the front of their jerseys. The Raptors added purple, and red to their new color scheme.

The Raptors' debut under new head coach Brendan Malone on November 3 ended in a victory against the New Jersey Nets at the SkyDome, but they lost their next seven games.

Murray was second on the team for scoring, with an average of 16.2 points per contest. He also led the team by scoring 151 three-point field goal attempts during that season. Miller contributed 12.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.4 stoles to the team. Robertson contributed 9.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and four assists per game from the bench.

Despite having the worst attendance record in the league they still managed to attract over 17283 fans per match at SkyDome (now Rogers Centre).

When did the Raptors defeat the Chicago Bulls in the NBA?

The Raptors defeated Chicago Bulls (who would win the NBA Championship the following year) on March 24, 1996. The final score was 109-108. Michael Jordan tried to win for the Bulls with a last-minute shot but it didn't matter because it came after the final buzzer had sounded.

What does "We The North" actually mean?

The Toronto Raptors are known for their anthem, "We The North," also known to as We The North Nation. It was composed by Drake and Noah "40" Shebib.

Drake wrote the song in Toronto while staying with a friend. He recorded Take Care with KanyeWest, another artist. Drake decided to create lyrics about his hometown, while he was there. Drake wanted the song to represent all Canadians. The song talks about unity, pride, and hope.

Drake began writing the melody for We The North while he was in London filming the video of "Nice For What". The song's instrumental version was recorded in just one take.

Drake was writing the lyrics to the song, but 40 came up with the chorus. Drake liked the hook so much that he asked 40 to record it. They worked together to create the final product.

The official music video for "We The North Anthem" was released on October 5, 2018. The video featured Shawn Mendes, a Canadian singer-songwriter, performing with Drake and other musicians.
