How was the Toronto Raptors' inaugural year of existence?
The Toronto Raptors had a difficult first season in NBA. Brendan Malone was hired as the head coach and Isiah THOMAS became GM. In 1995, the Raptors were established. Many talented players were drafted and traded for. They beat the Chicago Bulls once, but overall finished with a 21 - 61 win-loss record.
Toronto drafted Marcus Camby as Rookie-of-the Year in 1996. Camby was also part of the starting team with Alvin Williams at the point guard. Damon Stoudamire was traded in 1997. Toronto continued to make roster changes as it sought to establish a foundation for future success.
Despite all its changes, the team continues to struggle in its first few NBA seasons. Toronto finally reached the playoffs in 2000, after much rebuilding and transition. But it was defeated by the New York Knicks.
What was the Raptors first game?
The Raptors' first regular season was played at the SkyDome against the New Jersey Nets, November 3, 1995. Alvin Robertson scored the franchise's first points with 33,306 supporters in attendance. The Raptors defeated Nets in 94-79. Contributions from Damon Stoudamire (10 and 10 assists), as well as Robertson (30 pts) were key.

The Toronto Raptors, as of 2001 are the only Canadian NBA basketball team. The Vancouver Grizzlies, a former NBA team, moved to Memphis in 2001 and became the Memphis Grizzlies. Canada did have two teams--the Toronto Raptors and Vancouver Grizzlies--for a brief time during the late 1990s, but no other Canadian cities currently have an NBA team. The Niagara River Lions are located at St. Catharines, Ontario. The CEBL, Canada's only professional basketball league, is currently in operation.
The National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) was a professional men's basketball league that operated from 2011 to 2020. It included eight teams from Halifax (Moncton), Saint John; Cape Breton), Summerside and London. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the NBLC ceased operation.
Canada also has junior hockey leagues, like the Canadian National Basketball League. This semi-professional men's league is located in Vancouver BC. CNB teams come from British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba. Canadian Elite Development League, (CEDL), is another Canadian junior basketball league that focuses primarily on the Greater Toronto Area. The Toronto Raptors usually play during weekdays between October-April. Weekends are often reserved by other events such as concerts and festivals.
You should book tickets in advance as they sell quickly.
Wednesday is the most common day to attend a Toronto Raptors team game. This is due to the fact that many fans arrive early in order to view pregame warmups.
Fans head to Nathan Phillips Square next to the ACC after the game. They stay there till the end of game.
The best time to see a Toronto Raptor team play is after 8 p.m. The stadium is empty before midnight, but fans return to celebrate their team's win.
