Frequently Asked Questions

What does "We The North", mean?

The Toronto Raptors are known for their anthem, "We The North," also known to as We The North Nation. It was composed by Drake and Noah "40" Shebib.

Drake wrote the song while staying at his friend's apartment in Toronto. He recorded Take Care with KanyeWest, another artist. While there, Drake decided to write some lyrics about his hometown. He wanted the song to reflect all Canadians. It speaks of unity, pride and hope.

Drake began writing the melody for We The North while he was in London filming the video of "Nice For What". The song's instrumental version was recorded in just one take.

While Drake was writing the lyrics for the track, 40 came up with the chorus. Drake loved the hook and asked to record it. Together they created the final product.

The official music video to "We The North Anthem", was released October 5, 2018. It featured Shawn Mendes, Canadian singer-songwriter and Drake performing with other musicians.

How was the Toronto Raptors' inaugural year of existence?

It was difficult for the Toronto Raptors to make it in the NBA's first season. Brendan Malone, who was then hired by Isiah as GM, became the head coach for the Raptors' 1995 franchise. They soon acquired many talented players through the draft and through trades. They defeated the mighty Chicago Bulls once that season, but overall they finished with a 21-61 win-loss record.

Toronto drafted Marcus Camby in 1996. He was named Rookie of Year and was part of the starting lineup with Alvin Williams as point guard. Damon Stoudamire was traded in 1997. Toronto continued to make roster changes as it sought to establish a foundation for future success.

Despite all the changes, Toronto struggles through its first few NBA seasons. After a period of transition and rebuilding, Toronto finally made its first playoff appearance in 2000 but lost the series to the New York Knicks.

Why is Toronto Raptors called Raptors

The NBA's expansion into Canada in 1995 saw the founding of Toronto Raptors. Name and logo for the team were inspired from Jurassic Park. The team colours are bright red, purple, black, and silver.

In the first season of Raptors basketball, the team struggled to find their footing in the league and finished with a 21-61 record. The team continued to improve each year and made it to the playoffs in 1999.

The Raptors' most memorable moment was in 2019, when they won the NBA championship title. Toronto's first title was won by Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry, their backcourt duo. They defeated the Golden State Warriors in six thrilling games.

Since then, Canada's most loved sports team, the Raptors, have been an institution. Toronto continues bringing excitement to basketball fans across the world with its international superstars as well as local talent.

Canada's proud heritage is represented by the Toronto Raptors. Their success on the courts inspires young basketball players all over the country. With their passionate fans, unique style of play, and commitment to excellence, there is no doubt that the Raptors will continue to be one of Canada's most beloved teams for years to come.

Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) owns the team. MLSE also has the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs as well as the MLS's Toronto FC and CFL's Toronto Argonauts. They also own the AHL's Toronto Marlies and Toronto Rock lacrosse team.

How many years has the Raptors been around?

The Toronto Raptors are an NBA franchise located in Toronto, Ontario. The Raptors were an expansion team to the NBA in 1995 along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. In 2001-02, the Raptors became the only Canadian-based NBA team after the Grizzlies moved to Memphis, Tennessee.

Toronto Raptors players Scotiabank Arena for their home games. The arena is also used by the Maple Leafs, the city's NHL team. The Raptors have made 13 appearances in the NBA playoffs since their inception. Most recently, they lost 6 games against the Philadelphia 76ers during the first round in 2021.

In 1999-2000, the Raptors qualified for their first playoff appearance. In the first round, the Raptors were swept by New York Knicks division rivals.

There were not many fans and the team was not exciting. There wasn't anything to root for, nor was there anyone who cared. After years of being mediocre, the team made a decision to improve its image and make it more appealing to the general public.

The team hired an advertising agency to help them create a national marketing strategy in 2001. Using creative thinking, they devised a slogan, "Hear us roar."

The slogan was created to advertise the fact that all the games had been sold out. All they had to do was create a catchy phrase with a great logo. This is where creative genius shines through. They combined the phrase "hear them roar" with another well-known saying, "never let go." This became Toronto Raptors' official motto.

Which was the first season of the Toronto Raptors?

The Toronto Raptors' debut season was a disaster, with only 21 wins. The 1995-1996 Toronto Raptors season marked the beginning of the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Toronto Raptors. The Raptors were among two expansion teams that joined the league in 1995, alongside the Vancouver Grizzlies. This was also the first NBA-level season.

All-Star point guard and former Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas became the team's General Manager. He was involved in the draft that produced Damon Stoudamire. He would go on to win Rookie-of-the Year. They also traded for Tracy Murray and Oliver Miller. Thomas also introduced a new primary logo of a dinosaur playing basketball and new pinstripe uniforms with the logo on the front of their jerseys. The Raptors added purple, and red to their new color scheme.

Brendan Malone, new head coach for the Raptors, made his debut on November 3 against the New Jersey Nets at SkyDome. The Raptors lost their next seven contests.

Murray was second in scoring with 16.2 points per game. He also led the team with 151 three point field goals. Miller contributed 12.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.4 stoles to the team. Robertson contributed 9.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and four assists per game from the bench.

Despite their worst record in the league, they had a very high attendance, with over 17283 people per game at SkyDome (now Rogers Centre).

How To

Is it possible to bring my camera with me to a Raptors' game?

You will be fine if your plan is followed. It is acceptable to bring a camera to an NBA match. There is nothing illegal about this. It is important to be aware that there are risks.

You must first consider whether or not you are allowed to take photos during the game. It doesn't matter if you have a DSLR or a smartphone, as long you are close to the court, you may be able capture great shots.

If you are serious about sports photography and want to get more photos to add to your portfolio, you should check these tips for better basketball shots.

The second thing you must think about is which camera you are going to be using. A professional-grade camera is essential if you plan to take action shots or capture memorable moments with friends.

It is also important to determine how much time you are willing to spend setting up the shot. If you are going to shoot hoops together with your kids, you might want to invest in a tripod or remote release rather than carrying heavy equipment.

Finally, you have to figure out where to store your gear. After all, you can't expect to set up shop at the arena and hope that someone will hand you a memory card when you're done. You will need to either bring extra batteries, cables, SD cards, or find somewhere to store your stuff while you watch the game.

You must plan in advance if you want to capture high-quality photographs of sporting events. Doing so will help ensure you capture some great images you can enjoy later on.
