Frequently Asked Questions
How did the Raptors win 2019's NBA title?
DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poltl and a protected 2019 draft pick were traded by the Toronto Raptors to the San Antonio Spurs on July 18, 2018.
On February 7, 2019, Jonas Valanciunas (Raptors) and Delon Wright-C.J. Miles, along with a 2024 second-round selection draft pick to Memphis Grizzlies for Marc Gasol--another multi-All-Star and former defensive player of the year--and signed Jeremy Lin shortly afterwards.
Two big trades by the Toronto Raptors sent shockwaves through NBA. DeMar DeRozan was traded first to the Raptors, Jakob Poltl was traded second and a first-round draft pick for 2019 (that was still protected) was sent to San Antonio Spurs. In exchange they received Kawhi and Danny Green from Spurs. Then they traded Jonas Valanciunas to the Spurs and Delon WrightC.J. Miles, and a 2024 second-round draft pick to the Memphis Grizzlies for Marc Gasol--another multiple All-Star and former Defensive Player of the Year. These moves placed the Raptors into a formidable position to compete in the NBA title race this season. Let's take a closer glance at each trade.
Kawhi Leonard was traded to the Raptors as a risk-reward trade. Leonard is a top-5 pick in the league, when healthy, and just finished an MVP-caliber campaign. However, Leonard only played nine games last season because of injury and it is unclear if he will continue to play. But the Raptors decided that it was worth the risk, and they signed the deal. So far, Leonard has been healthy and has been playing at an All-Star level. He is averaging 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists per game while shooting 49% from the field and 38% from three-point range. If he can keep his health, he will give the Raptors a real shot at winning the NBA title.
Marc Gasol's trade was more a short-term deal than anything else. Gasol is in his thirties and is clearly out of his prime. However, he is still a very good player who brings valuable experience to a young Raptors team. He is averaging fifteen points, eight rebounds, and four assists per game. He shoots 45% from three-point range, while also shooting 45% from behind the arc. C.J. and Delon Wright, two of their young players, were traded by the Raptors. They acquired Gasol from Miles, but believe that his experience will prove invaluable in the playoffs.
The Raptors began the season strong with a 6-0 win. They broke the franchise record for winning 16 consecutive games, which was set by a record 16-4 record. On November 23, the Raptors won their 24th game against Cleveland Cavaliers. They also reached 20 wins faster than any other time in their history. To prevent Leonard's injury from getting worse, the Raptors rested him for 20 more games. They still managed to secure the 2nd seed East, just behind Milwaukee Bucks.
The Raptors made a strong run in the playoffs and defeated the Philadelphia 76ers in Milwaukee Bucks' finals. Leonard was named Finals Champion and the Raptors took home their first title.
The Toronto Raptors enjoyed a successful offseason. This has been a huge success. Two All-Stars are on the roster and the Raptors look poised to be contenders in the years ahead. They have shown they are capable and willing to make bold moves as well as take risks when it comes to assembling a championship-level team. It will interesting to see if their success continues in the future.
Why are Toronto Raptors called Raptors
The NBA's expansion into Canada in 1995 saw the founding of Toronto Raptors. The team's name and logo were inspired by the film Jurassic Park, released that same year. The team colours are silver, bright red, purple, and black.
In the first season of Raptors basketball, the team struggled to find their footing in the league and finished with a 21-61 record. However, the team improved each year, and by 1999, they had made their first playoff appearance.
The Raptors' most memorable moment in 2019 was when they won their first NBA championship title. Toronto's first title was won by Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry, their backcourt duo. They defeated the Golden State Warriors in six thrilling games.
Since then, the Raptors have become firmly entrenched as one of Canada's most beloved sports teams. Toronto continues to provide excitement to basketball fans worldwide, whether they are international superstars or homegrown talent.
Canada's proud heritage is represented by the Toronto Raptors. Their success on the courts inspires young basketball players all over the country. With their passionate fans, unique style of play, and commitment to excellence, there is no doubt that the Raptors will continue to be one of Canada's most beloved teams for years to come.
What is the longest time that the Raptors have been together?
Toronto Raptors, an NBA team located in Toronto (Ontario), is home to the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors were an expansion team to the NBA in 1995 along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. In 2001-02 the Raptors became Canada's only NBA-based team, after the Grizzlies moved to Memphis.
Toronto Raptors players Scotiabank Arena for their home games. The arena is also used by the Maple Leafs, the city's NHL team. The Raptors have appeared in the NBA playoffs 13 times since their founding, most recently in 2021, where they lost in 6 games to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the playoffs.
In 1999-2000 the Raptors reached their first playoff appearance. They were defeated by the New York Knicks, division rivals, in the first round.
There were not many fans and the team was not exciting. There was little to watch or root for and no reason anyone would care. But after years of mediocrity, the team decided to change its image and went out of its way to make itself more appealing to the public.
They hired an advertising agency in 2001 to create a strategy for marketing that would help them achieve national fame. They created a slogan that screamed "Hear me roar!"
The team was experiencing financial difficulties at the time so the slogan was used to highlight the fact that all of their games had sold out. They needed a catchy slogan and a great logo. This is where agency's creative genius shines. They combined the phrase "hear them roar" with another well-known saying, "never let go." This became Toronto Raptors' official motto.

How To
Can I take my photography equipment to a Raptors Game?
You'll be fine if you stick to the plan and follow the rules. There's nothing wrong with bringing a camera to an NBA game. There is nothing illegal about this. It is important to be aware that there are risks.
First, think about whether you have to take photos during the match. If you sit near the courtside, you can capture great shots without needing a large DSLR or smartphone.
These tips can help you take better photos of your favorite basketball games if you're serious about sports photography.
The second thing you must think about is which camera you are going to be using. You will need a professional-grade digital camera if your goal is to capture action shots or memorable moments with friends.
It is also important to determine how much time you are willing to spend setting up the shot. For instance, if you're going to shoot hoops with your kids, you may want to invest in a tripod and a remote release instead of carrying heavy equipment.
You need to find a place to store your gear. You can't expect anyone to hand you a SD card or set up shop in an arena. So you either need to pack a bag with extra batteries, cables, and SD cards or find somewhere to keep your stuff while watching the game.
If you want to take great photographs at sporting events, plan ahead. Doing so will help ensure you capture some great images you can enjoy later on.
