Frequently Asked Questions
Who are the five top Raptors per game scorers from Raptors history?
Kawhi Leonard has the highest scoring player on the team with 26.6 points per contest. Vince Carter is next with 23.4 points per minute, Mike James with 20.3, Chris Bosh at 20.2, Chris Bosh and DeMar DeRozan are following with 20.3 points each game.
What was your favorite year with the Raptors?
Toronto Raptors' best year was the 2019 championship season. The Raptors won the NBA Championship for the first time in their history. It was an exciting and memorable season. The team posted a 58-24 record during the regular season, with Kawhi Leonard named Finals MVP. The Golden State Warriors were defeated in six games by the team to win the title.
2013 saw the Toronto Raptors replace Bryan Colangelo as general manager with MasaiUjiri. This was a major change for the franchise, and would lead to a new era that would see them one of the most successful teams in the NBA.
The Raptors experienced a revival under Ujiri. They reached the playoffs for the first-time since 2008, and were back in the top five Divisions. Since then, they've won five Division titles and had their most successful regular season in 2018. Ujiri also made an unorthodox but successful trade in that year, sending DeMar DeRozan and Kawhi Leonard to the San Antonio Spurs.
The Raptors had a phenomenal 2019, winning their first conference crown and making it to NBA finals. They defeated the Golden State Warriors in six games.
Ujiri’s tenure with Raptors has been a tremendous success. It is worth recognizing him as the one who changed the team’s fortunes. Thanks to his leadership, the Raptors are now one of the best teams in the NBA and look poised to remain contenders for years to come.
The 2019 championship season is certain to be one of the most memorable in Raptors' history.
As we advance, Ujiri and the rest of the Toronto Raptors organization should remain focused on creating a winning culture that supports their players and staff. The future of this team looks bright with their dedication to excellence. The 2019 Toronto Raptors Championship season has set a high bar, and Ujiri and his teammates must build on this success.
What is the longest time that the Raptors have been together?
Toronto Raptors is an NBA franchise that is located in Toronto, Ontario. The Raptors were an expansion team to the NBA in 1995 along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. The Raptors are the only Canadian-based NBA basketball team.
Toronto Raptors are based at Scotiabank Arena, where they play their home games. The Maple Leafs, a city's NHL club, also uses the arena. The Raptors have appeared in the NBA playoffs 13 times since their founding, most recently in 2021, where they lost in 6 games to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the playoffs.
1999-2000 saw the Raptors make their first playoff appearance. Unfortunately, they were swept by division rivals New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs.
There were not many fans and the team was not exciting. There was not much to be excited about and nothing to cheer for. But after years of mediocrity, the team decided to change its image and went out of its way to make itself more appealing to the public.
The team hired an agency to create a marketing strategy that would bring them national fame in 2001. The team came up with a slogan called "Hear us Roar!"
The team was experiencing financial difficulties at the time so the slogan was used to highlight the fact that all of their games had sold out. They needed a catchy slogan and a great logo. This is where creativity shines through. They combined the popular phrase "hear our roar" with "never say die". This became Toronto Raptors' official motto.
Why did NBA leave Vancouver?
NBA left Vancouver because of a dispute with the City Council regarding arena financing. The City was going to contribute $40 million towards constructing a new basketball arena, which would include 12 luxury suites, two restaurants, a bar, and a hotel. However, the City Council wanted to give the team owners $60 million in taxpayer money to pay off their existing debt. This meant that the city would have had to borrow $200m in order to build the arena. While the team owners had only to pay $20 million, this was a huge difference. This would leave the city's taxpayers responsible for the repayment of the remaining loan.
The City Council agreed that the plan could be approved if the NBA was willing to continue playing at Rogers Arena through the opening of the new facility. However, the league refused to compromise and said that the arena was too small for them. They couldn't play there any more because the arena was too small. They felt asking them to continue playing in a smaller venue was unfair when they weren't getting any extra revenue.
The City Council then asked the province to step in and help out by offering financial assistance. While the province provided $150 million for the project, the City Council required another $100 million. The City then decided to abandon its plans and instead focus on building a new downtown arena.
How many NBA teams are there in Canada?
The Toronto Raptors, as of 2001 are the only Canadian NBA basketball team. The Vancouver Grizzlies were an NBA team from 1995 to 2001 but relocated to Memphis and became the Memphis Grizzlies. Canada did have two NBA teams during the late 1990s: the Vancouver Grizzlies, and the Toronto Raptors. However, no other Canadian cities have an NBA team. Canadians love basketball, and many travel to the United States to watch games. The Toronto Raptors are a well-known and popular team that has been around since 1995. They continue to attract large audiences for home games at Scotiabank Arena. Many Canadians travel to the United States each year to enjoy the NBA All-Star Weekend. Canada can host more than one NBA basketball team with its 38 million population. Many North American basketball fans have debated the possibility of a second team. The Toronto Raptors continue to be the only Canadian representation within the NBA.
Canadian Elite Basketball League is a Canadian professional basketball league. Six teams are represented in this league, which includes the Fraser Valley Bandits (Abbotsford BC), Edmonton Stingers, Edmonton, Alberta, Guelph Nighthawks, Guelph Nighthawks, Guelph (Ontario), Hamilton Honey Badgers, Hamilton, Ontario, Saskatchewan Rattlers, Saskatoon (Saskatoon), Saskatchewan, and Niagara River Lions, St. Catharines (Ontario). The CEBL is the only professional basketball league operating in Canada currently.
The National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC), a professional men's basketball team, was in existence from 2011 through 2020. It included eight teams from Halifax (Moncton), Saint John; Cape Breton), Summerside and London. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NBLC was forced to cease operations in 2020.
Canada also has junior leagues like the Canadian National Basketball League, which is a semiprofessional men's basketball league located in Vancouver, BC. CNB has teams from British Columbia and Alberta as well as Manitoba and Ontario. Canadian Elite Development League, (CEDL), is another Canadian junior basketball league that focuses primarily on the Greater Toronto Area. AC) and Canadian Youth Basketball League.
