Why are Toronto Raptors called Raptors
The NBA's expansion into Canada in 1995 saw the founding of Toronto Raptors. The logo and name of the team are based on Jurassic Park, which was released in 1995. The team colors include bright red and purple as well as black and silver.
The Raptors finished their first season with a 21-61 record. This was due to the team's inability to find their feet in the league. The team improved each year and they made their first playoff appearance in 1999.
The Raptors most memorable moment was 2019 when they captured their first NBA championship title. Toronto was led by Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry in the backcourt, winning their first NBA championship.
Since then, the Raptors have become firmly entrenched as one of Canada's most beloved sports teams. Toronto continues bringing excitement to basketball fans across the world with its international superstars as well as local talent.

What was the best year for the Raptors?
The 2019 championship season was Toronto Raptors’ best year. It was a thrilling, memorable season for Toronto Raptors. The Raptors won their first NBA Championship in franchise history. Kawhi Leonard was named Finals MVP after the team posted a record of 58-24 during the regular season. They beat the Golden State Warriors six times to win the title.
2013 saw the Toronto Raptors replace Bryan Colangelo as general manager with MasaiUjiri. This change would bring a new era to the franchise and make them one of NBA's best teams.
The Raptors experienced a revival under Ujiri. They reached the playoffs for the first-time since 2008, and were back in the top five Divisions. They've won five division titles and had their best season yet in 2018. Ujiri also made an unorthodox but successful trade in that year, sending DeMar DeRozan and Kawhi Leonard to the San Antonio Spurs.
The Raptors had an incredible 2019, winning their first conference championship, and reaching the NBA finals. They defeated the Golden State Warriors in six games.

How long have the Raptors been a team?
Toronto Raptors, an NBA team located in Toronto (Ontario), is home to the Toronto Raptors. In 1995, the NBA added the Raptors to its expansion roster along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. The Grizzlies relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, in 2001-02, making the Raptors the only Canadian-based team in the NBA.
Toronto Raptors: The Raptors play their home games in Scotiabank Arena. The city's NHL team also uses the arena, the Maple Leafs. Since their inception, the Raptors have been in the NBA playoffs 13 different times. They lost 6 games to Philadelphia 76ers in round one of the playoffs in 2021.
The Raptors were eligible for their first playoff appearance in 1999/2000. Unfortunately, they were swept by division rivals New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs.
Fans were rare and few, and the team was not very exciting. There wasn't anything to root for, nor was there anyone who cared. The team finally decided to change their image after years of mediocrity and made every effort to appeal to the public.
The team hired an advertising agency to help them create a national marketing strategy in 2001. They came up with the slogan "Hear us roar" using creative thinking.
They used the slogan because the team was in financial trouble at the time and wanted to make sure that everyone knew that they were selling out. All they needed was a catchy phrase and a great logo to go along with it. This is where creative genius shines through. They combined the popular phrase "hear our roar" with "never say die". This became the official motto of the Toronto Raptors.
Why did NBA leave Vancouver?
NBA pulled out of Vancouver due to a dispute over arena financing. The City planned to provide $40 million for the construction of a new arena that would feature 12 luxury suites and two restaurants. To pay down existing debt, the City Council wanted the $60 million taxpayer money that the City Council would give to the team owner. This meant the city would have to borrow $200 million to build the arena, while the team owners only had to pay back $20 million in debt. This would mean that the city's taxpayers would be responsible for paying back the rest of the loan.
The City Council stated that they would be open to the plan if the NBA agreed not to leave Rogers Arena until the new facility opens. But the league refused to agree, saying the arena wasn't big enough for them anymore. They were not interested in playing there anymore, as it was too small. They felt asking them to continue playing in a smaller venue was unfair when they weren't getting any extra revenue.
The City Council requested financial assistance from the province in return. Although the province was willing to donate $150 million, the City Council still needed additional $100 million. The City decided to focus its efforts on building a new downtown arena and dropped its plans.
When was the Raptors first ever playoff win?
Toronto won their first ever playoff series, defeating New York by 3-2 in 2001. The team advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals for only the second time under Lenny Wilkens as head coach.
