On February 7, 2019, the Raptors traded Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright C. J. Miles, and a 2024 draft pick to Memphis Grizzlies were traded to Marc Gasol (another multiple All-Star player and former Defensive Player-of-the-Year) and Jeremy Lin shortly thereafter.
The Toronto Raptors had a very eventful offseason, making two big trades that sent shockwaves through the NBA. He is averaging 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists per game while shooting 45% from the field and 34% from three-point range. C.J. and Delon Wright were both young assets that the Raptors had to give up. Miles to acquire Gasol, but they believe his experience will be invaluable come playoff time.
The Raptors began the season strong with a 6-0 win. They broke the franchise record for winning 16 consecutive games, which was set by a record 16-4 record. On November 23, the Raptors won their 24th game against Cleveland Cavaliers. They also reached 20 wins faster than any other time in their history. To avoid further injury, Leonard was rested by the Raptors for more than 20 games. However, they managed to capture 2nd place in East, only trailing behind Milwaukee Bucks.
The Raptors went on to have a successful run in the playoffs, dispatching the Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks to reach the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history. Leonard was named Finals MVP and the Raptors won their first title against the Golden State Warriors in game 6.
The Toronto Raptors enjoyed a successful offseason. This has been a huge success. The Raptors have two All-Stars and are ready to compete for the title in years to come. They have shown they are capable and willing to make bold moves as well as take risks when it comes to assembling a championship-level team.
