Frequently Asked Questions
What does "We The North" mean?
The Toronto Raptors use the anthem "We The North", also known as We The North Nation. It was composed by Drake, producer Noah "40", Shebib.
Drake wrote the song while staying at his friend's apartment in Toronto. He completed his album Take Care with Kanye West. While there, Drake decided to write some lyrics about his hometown. Drake wanted it to be universally applicable. The song talks about unity, pride, and hope.
Drake began to work on the melody for We The North after he went to London to film the video for his single "Nice For What". He then recorded the instrumental version in one take.
Drake was writing lyrics for the song when 40 suggested the chorus. Drake liked the hook so much that he asked 40 to record it. Together, they worked to create the final product.
The official music video to "We The North Anthem", was released October 5, 2018. The video featured Shawn Mendes from Canada, who performed with Drake and other musicians.

Thomas introduced a new primary emblem featuring a dinosaur playing ball and pinstripe uniforms sporting the logo on the front. The Raptors added purple and red to their color scheme.
Brendan Malone, the new head coach of the Raptors, won the Raptors' first game on November 3, against the New Jersey Nets at SkyDome. However, they lost seven of their next seven games.
Murray was second on the team for scoring, with an average of 16.2 points per contest. He also led the team by scoring 151 three-point field goal attempts during that season. Miller was the team's leading scorer with 12.9 points and 7.4 boards, 1.4 steals and 1.9 block per game. Robertson had 9.3 points and 4.4rebounds as well as four assists and two steals each game.

However, there is no NBA team in Canada. Canadian basketball fans are still passionate, even though Canada does not have an NBA team. Many Canadians travel to the United States to see games. The Toronto Raptors have been a famous team since their inception in 1995 and continue to draw large crowds for their home games at Scotiabank Arena. Many Canadians travel to the United States each year to enjoy the NBA All-Star Weekend. Canada can host more than one NBA basketball team with its 38 million population. Many basketball fans in North America have discussed and debated its potential for a second team. Until then, the Toronto Raptors remain the only Canadian representation in the NBA.

Toronto beat New York 3-2 to win their first ever playoff series. This was the first time that Toronto had reached the Eastern Conference semifinals since Lenny Wilkens' tenure as head coach.
How was the Toronto Raptors' first year?
The Toronto Raptors had a difficult first season in NBA. Brendan Malone was appointed head coach by Isiah Tom, and they soon acquired many talented players via trades and in the draft. They defeated the mighty Chicago Bulls once that season, but overall they finished with a 21-61 win-loss record.
Toronto drafted Marcus Camby as Rookie-of-the Year in 1996. Camby was also part of the starting team with Alvin Williams at the point guard. Damon Stoudamire left Toronto in 1997. More roster changes were made as Toronto sought to create a foundation for future success.
Despite all these changes, the team has struggles in its first few seasons of the NBA. Toronto finally made it to the playoffs in 2000 after a period for rebuilding and transition. Unfortunately, the New York Knicks won the series.
How many years have the Raptors been together as a team?
Toronto Raptors, an NBA team located in Toronto (Ontario), is home to the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors joined the NBA as an expansion team in 1995, along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. The Raptors were the only Canadian-based NBA team when the Grizzlies moved from Vancouver to Memphis in 2001-02.

In 1999-2000 the Raptors reached their first playoff appearance. They were defeated by the New York Knicks, division rivals, in the first round.
There were not many fans and the team was not exciting. There wasn't much to cheer for, or even watch, and nobody knew why. But after years of mediocrity, the team decided to change its image and went out of its way to make itself more appealing to the public.
In 2001, the team hired a professional advertising agency to help develop a marketing strategy that would make them famous in national markets. Their slogan was "Hear Us Roar!"
The slogan was created to advertise the fact that all the games had been sold out. All they needed was a catchy phrase and a great logo to go along with it. This is where the creative genius of the agency shines through. They combined the expression "hear us roar" and another popular saying, "never die." This became the Toronto Raptors' official motto.
What is the name the Toronto Raptors' official mascot?
The Toronto Raptors are an NBA franchise founded in 1995. They play their games in Scotiabank Arena.
Raptor is the Raptors' giant red dinosaur mascot. Raptor was introduced to the Raptors in 1995. He entertains fans at home with his acrobatics, slam-dunks, and other tricks. He is also a regular at charity events and community initiatives in Toronto. In 2019, he received the NBA Mascot of the Year award for his many years of service to the Raptors organization. Raptor is an iconic figure in Toronto and the NBA. He is one of the most well-known mascots in professional sport. Raptor has become an international symbol for Canada's basketball fandom.
Many in the country and throughout the city share Raptor’s enthusiasm for his team as well as its fans. Raptor was the Raptors' most prominent leader and they won their first NBA championship in 2019. This was a historic moment for Canadian basketball fans. Raptor continues being a source to pride for all Raptors. Raptors pride will never end. Long live the Raptor! Go, Toronto Raptors!
