The Toronto Raptors have been struggling, and coach Nurse has been looking for solutions; he found one in Fred VanVleet and Malachi Flynn combo. Together, these two form an influential duo that is helping the Raptors get back on track. Let’s look at how these two can help each other by helping the team. So far, the VanVleet-Flynn pairing has been successful, even though it was just a single game. While some might think that making major changes mid-season is a bad idea, this duo worked well together in the last game. Flynn brings youth and energy to the point guard role while still being able to handle the pressure of playing alongside veteran VanVleet. This balance between experience and youth makes for a dynamic duo that complements each other nicely on the court. This is why this combo is a winning one.
This provides better 3-point shooting for the Raptors
This provides more shooting on the court for the Raptors. Something that is needed as the team struggles from three. With the addition of Flynn, the Raptors now have a player who can shoot from anywhere on the floor. He also adds another option off the dribble, allowing him to create space for himself or others.
VanVleet and Flynn showed that they can play well together. VanVleet appreciated having someone else bear some of the burdens as the point guard. He acknowledged that it could be challenging at times to do everything by yourself without help from your backcourt players. Still, with Flynn, he now has another reliable teammate who can help share in his workload and provide valuable insight into further enhancing their game plan. On top of that, VanVleet doesn't have to storm in to plead his case since Flynn’s introduction. it speaks volumes about how well they work together on the court despite only having played with each other in the same lineup in such a short period. This new partnership is going to benefit both parties.
Keep them together
This pairing has allowed the Raptors to take advantage of their strengths. When you pair a great shooter with a good passer, you get a lot of value out of them. Both VanVleet and Flynn bring shooting and dribble penetration to the table. The key to unlocking your true potential lies in your ability to learn and adapt. Raptors need to learn and adapt quickly if they want to make get on a winning streak.
Though this new dynamic duo has been great offensively, there is still some cause for concern defensively. Before making any changes at the point guard position, defense was already a significant issue for the Raptors this season; however, with both players being relatively undersized compared to most NBA guards, they could be exposed defensively if they don’t work hard enough or if they make any mistakes on the court. This will be tempting for opposing teams not to try to take advantage of.
